Sight Words: I, like, and, the, see

At the beginning of the school year, Rachel's kindergarten teacher sent out a list of sight words they would be focusing on each quarter. Yay! Something I could work with her at home! The first quarter's sight words are I, like, and, the, see. After an unsuccessful search of the web and Pinterest for some activities for these specific sight words, I decided to make a few worksheets of my own.

The first one is a cookie sheet (or refrigerator, or whatever kitchen appliance you can stick magnets to!) activity. Secure the worksheet to your magnetic surface using either magnets or tape. Poster putty works well, too. Have your child search through your stash of alphabet magnets to find the letters that spell each word.

The second activity is a stamping worksheet. It's pretty straightforward to use. Simply have your child spell out the letters to each sight word using letter stamps. These are fairly inexpensive and easy to find. And craft store should have them. I purchased mine at Hobby Lobby for around $6 (even cheaper with a coupon!). Other alternatives to using the alphabet stamps would be Scrabble tiles or stickers. Be creative!

And finally, the third worksheet is a word scramble. Print out the worksheet and have your child cut out each letter (good for fine motor skills!). Then have the child sort out the letters to make each word. Alternatively, you can have your child cut and paste the letters to the stamping worksheet above. This works well for first introducing the words or with your younger children.

There you go! I hope you find some creative ways to use these worksheets. Let me know how you like them!
